A/B by KALEO

Just found my favorite album this week: A/B by Kaleo, a band from Mosfellsbær, Iceland. The album features 10 songs. My favorite would be Glass house, Way Down We Go, Hot blood and Broken bones.

Hot blood and Glass house really impressed me for the amount of energy and how crazy the performers sounded. In terms of the instrumental part they used lots of loud drum and made a fast steady beat and an absolute ton of electric guitar solos each having their own type of cool. Vocals constantly shouted stuff like “woo hoo” or “oh yeah” or some form of chanting. These elements really made their songs unable to be ignored.

Way down we go is the first song I heard from the band but from a totally non-biased viewpoint it does sound extremely special. First parts of the song had some deep symbolism like guilt and consequences but later transferred to a blues-style electric guitar melody with a bass drum. That melody is used in lots of online edits especially spider-man franchise edits for how cool it is played in manhattan scenes.

Broken bones is one of the last songs I discovered in the album. It does have a story of a slave in Southern USA is tired of his life and chose violence for his own freedom. I love the song mainly because of the southern accent and the tough/soulful lyrics: The devil's going to set me free/I busted bones broken stones, looked the devil in the eye.
