"Holiday flight" Analysis by Nicholas Ni
“Holiday flight” by John Williams is a soundtrack for classic Christmas film “Home Alone” 1990. The film is a family comedy about the story of a child who got forgotten at home defeating thieves using very entertaining and creative tricks while the rest of his family is away for vacation. “Holiday flight” is played in the scene where the entire family of the child is in a rush to the airport with scenes like the parents screaming about getting late, kids and adults running around the house. The scene is mainly for a lot of shock value which the music aligned with it really well.
“Holiday flight” used an orchestra is extremely fast in 155 beats per minute with frequent drum beats by snare drums and timpani beats as a base, strings with woodwinds in the melody to create a chaotic mix of sounds that you can’t really tell apart, some more strings in the background playing chords and most importantly, sleigh bells to decorate the song with a Christmas atmosphere similar to Christmas Ornaments.
After “Holiday flight”, another classic Christmas Rock n Roll song ”Run Rudolph run” by Chuck Berry is played in the scenes when the family leave the house on two vans and rushes through the airport like an army and made it to the flight.
