From Arpeggios to Strumming: A Musical Performance Reflection in Oct
1. What was your intention for the performance, and how successfully did you communicate it?
My intention is to play the chords in the song Atlantis using country music strumming instead of the original arpeggio chords, so in my performance I played all the chords in a strumming pattern which I believe is successful, though there are times that Id didn't play loud because of improper finger contact (i think) enough for people to hear a clear strumming.
2.How effectively did you transform the unfamiliar piece using ideas from your chosen song?
I transformed the unfamiliar piece using my ideas quite effectively as I managed to find a way to use country music style strumming on every chord in the song by taking the chord and translating the arpeggio to a single combine chord.
3.What were the strongest aspects of your performance? Give specific examples from the video.
The strongest aspect of my performance is some of the chords I played when strumming is very clear, every note in the chord was heard in the strumming and also no other notes were played accidentally, meaning the chords are very accurate, like the C major on 0:54 and the finish chord on E minor on 0:59.
4. What challenges or weaknesses did you identify in your performance, and how could you improve them?
Most of the weaknesses in my performance are with my left hand. Many of the chords I have either pressed mistakenly, missed one or two strings, so the chord did not have a pleasant harmony, or sometimes that I hesitated to press and play a chord, so parts of the performance were not smooth. To improve, I should spend more time trying to memorize the finger position when I first started, so during practicing I could have simply looked at a chord and played it, instead of looking at the fingerboard and the chord tabs every time.
5. What did you learn from this performance process, and what would you do differently in a future performance?
In this performance process, I learned that I should focus on working on the basics of an instrument so I could perform certain actions immediately such as pressing strings of a certain chord. In the future I would do some research on what the absolute basics of instruments are when practicing so I would have a easier time playing when reading an unfamiliar type of sheet music. That would make my performance sound much more pleasant, less stops.
