Criterion B music summative document by Nicholas
After considering about which scenes fits my scoring style best, I chose Act 2 scene one because the scene contains key emotional elements like desperation, romantic moments and also needed to be quiet and sneaky since in the story Romeo is not supposed to be found by any guards. These elements are best for using small ensembles and a little bit of instrument layering, instead of a huge symphony. I chose flute, violin and viola first and then added harp, so I can use flute for quiet melodies, violin and viola sections for the harmony, while using harp for decorative Arpeggios. G major is chosen because it is between C and B in the octave, like a middle spot from being too high or low.
I made my harmony and melody on Hook pad. I made the chord progression with a combination of majors and minors (For example G major and E minor) for a balance of emotions, so it connects to the play. (All majors make it too positive for a scene that the audience is not sure about the outcome while all minors are too negative, which is more suitable when they are both dead.)
I experimented in Garageband but ultimately transfered to Musescore 4 after finding out Garageband is not suitable for me.
